Song: Savior, Redeemer

 Episode 30  Comments  Stop Play

My Easter gift to listeners.

I've had this song in my head for 23 years, ever since my LDS mission to Florida in 1984--an audience of one--before I finally professional produced, arranged, and sang it in 2007 for the movie soundtrack of "Passage to Zarahemla."

Funny how music is. I can listen to this and entirely forget that I wrote it or sang it...and just let the message drift around me and bring me the same comfort as any other listener might receive. It's the only artform that I've been involved with that can do that for the artist as well as the consumer. I'd like to think that's because the song was never really "mine" to begin with. I was the bloke lucky (blessed?) enough to "receive" it. Could've been given to anyone.

No, posting it here doesn't mean I'm abandoning the copyright or somethin'. Folks must still seek permission to professionally re-produce or re-record. But...for now...listen and, I hope, enjoy. And (plug, plug, plug) remember it IS included on an entire album called "Whispered Visions". You can even get an arragement for piano through me, courtesy of a great arranger named Kyle Shaw.

THIS IS MY GIFT FROM FOREVERLDS. HAPPY EASTER!

Here's the lyrics, for those who are interested:

Savior, redeemer

I have got a question.

Redeemer, I have got a question.

I feel forgotten, fading, holding on.

No voice seems near as I pray.

All my illusions, visions, dreams withdrawn.

So I’m wondering what you’d say

Would you return to me today?

Savior, Redeemer

I don’t have the answers.

Redeemer, I can’t find the answers.

Nothing I ponder, touch, or see is real

The sky eternally gray.

These scars I gave myself may never heal.

So I’m asking Thee today

Will you return to me, I pray?

And then a light breaks forth

My soul is singing.

The darkness flees from the dawn.

The warmth surrounds me, soothes me

Breathes right through me

The sacred silent lingering calm.

I see the light of Thy creation coming on.

Savior, Redeemer

I may need Thy comfort

Redeemer, I so need thy comfort.

I’d sacrifice my pride, my life, my sins

If I could know Thee again.

Please show me where pain ends and hope begins.

So I plead with Thee my friend

Come near and never let it end.

And then a light breaks forth

My soul is singing

The darkness flees from the dawn.

The warmth surrounds me, soothes me

Breathes right through me

The sacred, silent, lingering calm.

I feel the power of peace sustaining me.

I feel the might of mountains move in me.

I feel the light of Thy salvation coming on

Coming on

Coming on

Coming on

Coming on.

Savior, Redeemer

I have found my answer

Redeemer, I found all my answers.

Redeemer, I found Thee.

This is a beautiful song, and the lyrics are so touching. I would love to purchase the piano music, but I am also wondering if you have the arrangement available with guitar, violin, or vocal parts.

Only for piano, Shelbee. My contact information is found in a link at the top of the homepage on www.foreverlds.com

So hauntingly lovely. Thanks Chris! When will this be available for sheet-music purchase? One voice? Two? Three or more?

Answer from Chris: It's available now as piano sheet music for one voice. An arranger may do what they want with it from there if it's for worship services.

I love this song and would really love it if somehow I could get in touch with Chris Heimerdinger to get a copy of the piano accompaniment. I don’t know how else to get in touch with him. If whoever sees this message could maybe tell him, I would be deeply in your debt. Thank you very much.

Response from Chris: My contact information is a link on the homepage of ForeverLDS.com. You are welcome to order a copy of the piano sheet music at any time. 801-870-2070. Leave a text if I don't answer and I'll call back ASAP. The cost is $3.99 and it would be sent to you as an attachment. Thanks Makenzie.

I heard this song in the movie once, rewind-ed and wrote down some of the words. I have sung small pieces of this song over the years in the car, after work, or to my kids at night. I absolutely love this song. Thank you.

    Chris,
Such a beautiful and well produced song. The music and lyrics are greater than their individual parts. Thank you for writing it. And your voice is good too – I thought your talents in the voice spectrum of talents were limited to your reading the Tennis Shoes books of which you and your fellow narrators do an incredible job!!!
I only found this podcast a couple weeks ago and think you do a great work and your truly gifted in the way you present your arguments and interact with your guests! Thank you, thank you – for the podcast, books and music… may the Lord be with you!!!!
